Looking After Your New Hair
How to care for your New Human Hair
We recommend sulphate and paraben free shampoo to care for your new hair.
- Brush your wig or topper to remove any tangling. Using a detangling brush, start from ends whilst supporting the roots and gently brush until tangle free to the roots.
- Wet the hair by running the water from top to bottom in the natural direction of the hair shaft
- Apply conditioner from mid lengths to ends, avoiding the roots. Using conditioner before shampooing helps to keep moisture in the hair
- Apply a small amount of sulphate free shampoo diluted with a little water
- Using a downward smoothing motion, work the lather through to the ends. Do not use circular rubbing action. If the hair does not lather with the first shampoo you will need to repeat this step.
- Rinse with warm water.
- Apply conditioner, avoiding the roots and rinse. It is important to avoid conditioner on the roots as this will loosen the knots and cause hair shedding.
- Once a week apply intensive treatment, again avoiding the roots, leave on for 5 to 10 minutes and rinse thoroughly with clean warm water.
- Wrap hair in a towel and pat dry. Do not rub.
- Using a detangling brush, start from ends whilst supporting the roots and gently brush until tangle free to the roots.
- Leave to air dry on a wig stand or blow dry always using a low heat and applying a thermal protection product to the hair.
- Always use a heat protection spray when using hairdryers (on low heat) and straighteners (190 C or below).
How to care for your New Human Hair & Synthetic Fibre Hair ( Future Hair)
We recommend washing your piece with products formulated for a Human Hair & High Heat Synthetic Fibre mix (Future Hair) every 7 to 10 days if worn daily.
Follow steps 1 - 10 above using a soft brush, the correct hair products and warm water. Leave to air dry on a wig stand overnight or use a hairdryer*. In the morning or once dry, style your piece into your desired style with heat tools*. However, please do not exceed 140°, use tools with a temperature gauge. Do not continuously apply heat to your future hair, this can cause permanent damage.
NEVER EXPOSE A FUTURE HAIR PIECE TO HIGH HEAT* OR NAKED FLAME.
Future hair is a human hair and high heat synthetic mix and you should not apply any high heat to the piece and avoid opening oven doors and standing under overhead heaters. This will burn the fibre.
Never wash in hot water.
The expected lifespan for a short future hair wig is 4-6 months, a mid-length (or bob) is between 3-4 months and a long wig is 2-3 months. Hairpieces are expected to last 4-6 months. These time frames are only approximate and are based on everyday wear.
The human hair part will naturally oxidise resulting in colour fade. This happens within the first few months of exposure to the environment and outdoors. However, the colour in the human hair part can be restored. Should you need to darken your hair, please seek professional advice. Please note that the synthetic part cannot be coloured.
All hair naturally tangles at the nape of the neck so it is recommended that long human hair is brushed gently numerous times a day, from the ends to the roots.
We do not recommend sleeping in your wig/hairpiece - it will cut the lifespan by at least half.
*Heated appliances: Future hair is very versatile: it can be blow-dried, straightened, curled, crimped or rolled-up. However, please do not exceed 140°, use tools with a temperature gauge. Do not continuously apply heat to your future hair, this can cause permanent damage.
